"Africa's Big Five"
"Africa's Big Five"
In
Africa's vast embrace, where the sun paints the blue sky,
Roam
the monarchs of the wild, the mighty Big Five,
Each
bearing tales of strength, survival, and pride.
From
the Serengeti's plains to the Congo's flow,
In
the heartbeat of Africa, under the sun’s watchful eye, their legends reside.
The
lion announces his presence, bold and high.
He
stalks the golden grasslands, where the hunt's begun.
A
king of the savannah, in shadows he prowls,
His
golden fur glows, dressing African queens and kings.
In
the circle of life, he plays his role.
With
tusks like gleaming ivory towers,
He
roams the land, where mighty rivers call.
His
dung, a portion of earth's purest form, A remedy to calm the flu's storm.
In
the rhythm of his steps, the earth sings a song, of his
wrinkled
skin telling tales of old, of journeys taken, of stories untold.
The
leopard stands, draped in spots of night's deepest black.
He
moves unseen, a ghost in the moon's soft light.
Trapped
by fences, roads, and snare, His freedom fades into thin air.
In
the silence of the night, his presence is felt,
In the twilight of his fading reign, the leopard still roams.
For the
gifts you bestow upon us are countless.
From horns
curved like the crescent moon, fashioned into musical instruments,
to plop
and splatter of dung upon the earth,
Oh! a
promise of fertility, a rebirth, creating fertile soils for crops to flourish.
As flames leap high, casting shadows tall, the horn's song rises.
For man,
in his greed and ignorance, seeks your demise,
hunting
you for your precious horn. But,
With
armor thick as the bark of ancient baobab trees.
And a horn
that gleams like polished ivory in the sun,
You stand,
resilient and strong. Oh! Noble rhino.
Majestic and wise, they roam the dry African land,
In their presence, the continent's
stories of diverse cultures unfold.
Beneath
the towering peaks of Kilimanjaro, they tread,
Their
presence a blessing, a source of pride,
Their
spirit lives beneath the skies.
For they
ensure the balance of life, where all are fed.

Looking forward to more amazing contentπ€❤️
I am drawing two things from this poem, one being a tribute to the splendor of African wildlife, and the second being a critical reflection on the responsibilities humans have towards preserving it.
It’s a really powerful piece that resonates with themes of reverence, coexistence, and conservation, making it a meaningful read for anyone interested in wildlife, poetry, and the intersection of the two.
Thank you Nghelo for sharing.
